Description
No 2 Broad Street is an early 18th-century building that was refronted in 1830. It has two storeys and attics, constructed in ashlar with a roof of stone slates. At the rear, there are remnants of a 17th-century house and a late 17th-century chimney stack. The front features two canted bays, each with three windows set in moulded stone surrounds that have small keystones. The windows do not have glazing bars, except for three cambered dormers that feature double-hung sashes.
The bays have a moulded cornice, and the main house has a dentil eaves cornice that extends over fluted and rusticated pilasters. Between the storeys of the bays, there are three moulded rectangular stone panels. The entrance door is made up of six panels and has a plain rectangular fanlight above it, all set within a moulded stone doorcase that includes panelled pilasters, fluted brackets, and a moulded cornice.
Between Nos 2 and 3, there is a rusticated and panelled stone stack with moulded capping, dating from the late 17th century. This building is part of a group that includes No 1, the railings and terrace to No 1, the wall and gates to No 2, Nos 3, 4, the Warden's House to No 4, and Nos 5 to 11 consecutively.
