Description
4 Red Lion Street, dating from 1671 and likely built in the 17th century, features coursed rubble that has been repointed. The building is gabled to the road, with the top of the gable rendered, and it has a stone slate roof. The left quoin is rusticated. The gable includes one window with a moulded flush frame, a double-hung sash with glazing bars, and there is a similar window on the first floor along with a small modern window. The early 19th-century shop window and half-glazed door are complemented by a rectangular fanlight.
The rear elevation faces Nos 3 and 4 Crown Street, which are constructed of ashlar. This section has two storeys, two hipped dormers, and four windows, two of which are blocked. The upper storey features moulded surrounds and rusticated keystones. A stone band and moulded stone plinth are present, along with triple keystones above two ground floor windows that have glazing bars. There are also two six-panel doors, with the door of No 3 featuring a two-light rectangular fanlight and a triple keystone.
Nos 1 to 4 form a group.
