Description
Number 1 Broad Street is a late 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall and is constructed in ashlar. It features a moulded cornice and a parapet. The top floor has three windows, which are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, and the band continues over the cills. The two lower storeys have canted bays topped with pitched leaded roofs, and these also contain hung sashes with 'Gothic' traceried glazing bars. Above the entrance door, the central window on the first floor also features 'Gothic' glazing bars. There is a moulded band at the cills of the first floor. The building has rusticated quoins and a plain porch designed in Roman Doric style, complete with a broad mutule cornice and a six-panel door. A rectangular 'Gothic' glazed fanlight is present above the door. Additionally, there are two stone chimney stacks. Although this house has its origins in the 17th century, it has been refronted three times. The property is part of a group that includes the railings and terrace to number 1, number 2, the wall and gates to number 2, and numbers 3, 4, the Warden's House to number 4, and numbers 5 to 11 in succession.
