Description

The Pump and Milestone is a milestone and water pump from the early 19th century, constructed of ashlar. It features an inscribed obelisk on a splayed base, with a rectangular trough that has splayed corners positioned in front. Behind the trough is a well equipped with an iron pull handle. Both the trough and base are panelled, and the front panel of the base is raised in a semicircle, from which a copper spout protrudes. The inscription in Roman capitals states, "From Lincoln 18 miles, From Grantham 7 miles, From London 117 miles."
