Description

The Village Pump is an ornamental water pump dated 1859, located in Leybourne. It is an octagonal-shaped structure made of stone, standing 8 feet high, featuring moulded coping, a cast iron spout positioned low down, and a handle on the right side. The pump is surrounded by 20th-century iron rails arranged in an octagon. It is flanked by a pair of low random rubblestone quadrant walls and low outer piers with squared bases topped by pyramidal caps. The pump has an inscription that reads: 'DRINK WEARY PILGRIM/DRINK AND PRAY/FOR LIVING WATERS/THEY ONLY THEY/CAN SATISFY EARTH'S/SONS AND DAUGHTERS. 1859.'
