Description

Cottage, originally of the 17th century, with a 19th-century front gable. The north-east side is plastered, while the ground floor of the other elevations is red brick and the first floor is tile hung. It has plain tiled roofs with a taller central return gable to the north-east, a half-hipped roof behind, and a 1 1/2-story wing to the rear. A tall brick stack rises off the rear ridge to the right. The cottage is two storeys and has attics, with a two-window front, featuring a blocked window in the gable. There are glazing bar sashes to the front, casements to the sides and rear, and a central half-glazed door with a 20th-century glazed weather patch. Single-storey lean-to extensions have been added to the north-west and south-east. The interior has a layout of two rooms. The larger room on the left is heated by a gabled end stack and has a direct entry from the central doorway. The smaller, unheated room on the right has a later lateral fireplace. A rear stair turret contains winder stairs rising from the left-hand room. The larger room features slightly chamfered cross-beams with run-out stops, exposed joists, and a large brick fireplace with a cambered brick arch. An 18th-century two-panel door provides access to a cupboard at the rear, located beneath the stairs. The smaller room has exposed joists and a small 19th-century lateral fireplace with a cambered brick arch. A simple 18th-century stone chimneypiece with bead moulding and a cast-iron grate is found in the left-hand chamber, while the right-hand chamber has a Victorian chimneypiece and grate along with exposed wall plates. The attic is ceiled but retains exposed clasped purlins and collars.
