Description

The Estate Cottages, also known as the entrance lodges to Denton Park, were built in 1898 in the Jacobethan style, possibly designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield. Constructed from coursed ironstone rubble, they feature limestone ashlar quoins and dressings, and have a plain tiled roof with raised moulded stone coped gables and ball finials. The entrance includes wrought iron gates and two stone gable stacks with ashlar quoins and cornices.

The structure is two storeys high with attics and has a three-bay front. It features a plinth and a central semi-circular archway flanked by single four-light windows with king mullions. Above the archway is an ashlar panel displaying a coat of arms and the inscription "Per ignem per gladium," set within a moulded surround that connects to a short section of string course with inscribed shields. Each side of the panel has a single three-light window, and above it is a smaller three-light window. All windows have stone ovolo moulded mullions, diamond leaded casements, and cornices. The three gables contain small keyed oculi. The lead rainwater pipes are dated 1898.

The wrought iron gates feature a scrolled central rail, ramped tops, and a knot motif in the centre. The flanking walls each have two ashlar piers with finials and shaped parapets over the garden gateways. This main gateway to Denton Park was designed for the Welby family.
