Description

The Laurels is a late 18th-century house with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is located on Denton Main Street and was incorrectly referenced as Gatehouse Farm on Ordnance Survey maps. The house is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with quoins, red brick dressings, and a pantile roof punctuated by two gable brick stacks.

The garden front, facing three bays, is two stories high with a garret. It features a projecting brick eaves course. A 19th-century half-octagonal brick porch with a facetted, plain-tiled roof provides access through a central six-panel door, which has a plain fanlight above. Single 19th-century canted bay windows flank the porch, each with a hipped, plain-tiled roof and plain sash windows. The first floor has two three-light casement windows with segmental brick heads. A Britannia fire insurance plaque sits above the porch.

The street front includes a 19th-century gabled porch. To the left of the porch is a three-light casement, and to the right, a two-light casement set under a timber lintel. A single two-light and a three-light glazing bar casement are on the first floor, both set within segmental brick heads.

Inside, the house retains a late 18th-century staircase with slender turned balusters.
