Description

The Ice House to Caythorpe Hall, built around 1823, is constructed from coursed and banded brick and ironstone, featuring a domed brick roof. It has an octagonal plan, with the above-ground structure being octagonal externally and covered with earth. The entrance is located on the east side and includes an outer doorway with a fallen segmental headed arch supported by stout jambs. The middle doorway is also segmental headed and framed in oak. The innermost doorway has a flat head and is also framed in oak. The ice chamber inside is egg-shaped and countersunk to approximately half its depth.
