Description
The Town Hall, built in 1821 and designed by architect Bryan Browning, is a small classical hall located on the east side of Market Place. The building features an ashlar façade with elliptical coach arches on either side. A central small segmental arch is positioned between two recessed flights of steps that curve up to the second storey, leading to a central door that is topped by a plain stone hood supported by brackets. On the second storey, there is one window in a shaped stone frame on either side of the central opening. Greek Doric columns stand on the piers that separate the ground floor openings, supporting a plain frieze with a segmental opening in the centre, above which is a datestone. The central section is capped with a pediment that features a clock, flanked by a balustraded parapet on either side.
