Description
The Angel Hotel is a Grade II listed building located on the west side of Market Place. It was built around 1860 as a complete 'Tudor' style reconstruction on the site of an earlier hotel. The structure is made of red brick with stone quoins and features 'Tudor' ornamentation, particularly in the panels beneath the windows of the three gabled bays. A fourth, larger gable sits above a four-centred arch adorned with ornamental spandrels. The gables are enhanced by elaborate bargeboards, and the roof has ridge tiles. Additionally, there are ornate red-brick 'Tudor' chimney stacks. The wings at the rear of the hotel are of the same period and exemplify a "gothic" design.
