Description
Gateways, walls, and railings at Number 1 (The Old School) date from around 1845. They feature limestone ashlar piers and brick plinth walls with cast-iron railings and a gate. There are two pairs of gate piers along High Street, separated by five panels of railings. The railings continue to the left and return along Spring Lane, forming the front boundary of the School House at 2 Spring Lane. Each gate pier has a brick plinth and a rectangular shaft with stop-chamfered edges, a cornice, and a pyramidal cap. The northern gateway includes a cast-iron gate that matches the railings. The railings are adorned with cresting on the bottom and top rails, and the intermediate standards feature finials. This structure is included for its group value.
