Description

No. 4 High Street is a cottage built in 1693, with mid-19th century and 20th century alterations. It features a timber frame encased in red brick, along with some coursed limestone rubble. The cottage has a steeply pitched pantile roof with a single ridge stack and 20th century barge boards. It is a single storey and attic structure with a four-bay front and a lobby entrance plan. The doorway is located to the left and has a segmental head with a plank door. There is a single casement window to the left and two casement windows to the right, all featuring segmental heads. At the rear, there is a single raking dormer with a 20th century casement. Inside, there are back-to-back inglenook fireplaces, one of which has the date "1693" inscribed on the bressumer. The wall plates are exposed upstairs, and there is one cross wall with posts, a straight brace, and crudely made joints. The original roof remains intact beneath the 20th century roof.
