Description

This is a well built in 1711, made of limestone. It features an upper rectangular trough with a slightly chamfered top, which has two stone channels on the north side and a single stone channel on the west side, directing water into three lower rectangular troughs. There are fragmentary remains of an even lower trough to the west, which is covered with two stone slabs. Attached to the well is a plaque commemorating the marriage of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer in July 1981. The plaque also notes that the Constables of Horbling paid £9.15s.5d. in 1711 to Anthony Ashley of Stamford for the construction and maintenance of the well for 20 years.
