Description
Harrowby Mill House is a mill house built in 1702. Although the mill has been demolished and the river diverted, two millstones remain on the site. The house is two stories high and features 19th-century half-timbering and plaster, along with bow windows. Inside, the kitchen retains its original beam ceiling, door lintel, and a floor-height window that leads to the original cellar below. The other two rooms have been altered, with their beams plastered over and the floors lowered. The walls are very thick, and some original window frames are still present. The house was originally part of the Harrowby estate and was later purchased by Mr. Sellars, then by Mr. Willoughby, who added the half-timbering, bow windows, and various ornamental arches made of Ancaster stone. The current tenant has photographs of the house before these ornamental changes, showing the original windows.
