Description

Birthorpe Manor House is a house built in the mid 17th century, with later additions from the mid 18th century and late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and limestone ashlar, topped with plain tiled roofs featuring stone coped gables, two ridge stacks, a single gable stack, and a single brick lateral stack on the east side. The building is arranged in a U-plan and has two storeys plus a garret.

The front facade has five bays, with the outer gabled bays projecting significantly forward. There are two central gabled bays and a narrow gabled bay attached to the left. The central doorway is framed by a pilastered doorcase with an entablature and a panelled door. On either side of the doorway are single glazing bar sash windows, both with segmental heads. The return walls each have a single glazing bar sash window with a segmental head.

The left bay features a cross mullion casement window with a segmental head and a doorway with a partially glazed door. The right bay has a two-storey canted bay window from the 19th century, which includes a central pair of glazed doors with a segmental head, flanked by single glazing bar sash windows with segmental heads. Above, there are three plain sash windows with segmental heads. To the left, there are two small glazing bar sashes and a single larger glazing bar sash with large panes, all three having segmental heads. A single garret window in the right gable consists of a glazing bar sash with large panes and a segmental head. The interior has not been inspected.
