Description
This is a well located on Pointon Church Lane, dating from the 12th century, with later additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It features fragments of limestone ashlar, rubble, and cobbles, along with some cement. The well has an oval plan and includes a central round well with an underwater stone culvert to the south. Surrounding the well is an oval cobbled area, also with some cement. The perimeter of the oval is marked by two ascending steps made of weathered architectural ashlar fragments. To the south, there is a rectangular 'plinth' that supports a traceried ashlar fragment. This well may be associated with the cult of St. Gilbert, whose Gilbertine abbey was located several hundred yards to the south.
