Description
Towngate House Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1864 for J. Goodale, featuring some minor alterations from the 20th century. The structure is made of squared and coursed limestone rubble, with ashlar quoins and dressings, and includes a red brick service wing. It has a Collyweston roof with stone-coped gables, pinnacles, and kneelers. The building has an L-plan layout and is two stories tall with garrets, presenting an irregular four-bay front. The right two bays are advanced and have individual gables.
At the center, there is a gabled and buttressed porch with a moulded outer arch topped by a floriated finial. Above the arch is a square panel with a cusped field that displays a shield featuring a cock. The inner door consists of six panels. To the left of the porch are two single fixed lights with transoms and four-centred arched heads, while to the right is a single four-light window of a similar style. On the first floor, there are single four-light and two-light windows, all equipped with moulded hoods and flush relieving arches. Additionally, the right side of the front features a two-story, three-light canted bay window with a plain parapet. John Goodale is listed in Whites 1856 directory as a maltster and farmer.
