Description
The barn and stables at Towngate House Farm date from the early 18th century, with later alterations in the late 18th century, mid 19th century, and 20th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with ashlar and red brick dressings. The stables have a Collyweston slate roof, while the barn features a corrugated iron roof. The building is arranged in an L-shape and is single storey with a loft. The front has six bays, with double planked doors on the left and two planked doors on the right, along with three semi-circular headed ventilator openings that have brick dressings. The barn, which is at right angles to the stables, is a single storey and single bay structure from the late 18th century, featuring wide basket archways on either side with ashlar key stones. At each end, there are wide open roofed links: one connects to the stables, and the other leads to a lower two-storey block, each with single planked openings on both floors. This building is included for its group value only.
