Description

The Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in 1670. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, topped by a pantile roof and ashlar coped gables. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high.

On the north street front, there is a single glazing bar window with a wooden lintel to the right, and to the left, a three-light ovolo mullion window in a chamfered surround with a hood mould. Above this is a small two-light sliding sash window. The west front features a large two-light ovolo mullion window in a chamfered surround with a hood mould. Above, to the left, are two two-light sliding sash windows, and to the right, there is another two-light ovolo mullion window in a chamfered surround with a hood mould, which has a plaque inscribed 'P. P. 1670' above it. The east gable wall also has a two-light ovolo mullion window in a chamfered surround with a hood mould.

The east wall has an off-centre doorway with a chamfered ashlar surround and a 19th-century panel door. To the right of the door is a two-light sliding sash window in a chamfered surround, and to the left is a fixed light in a chamfered surround, all featuring hood moulds. Above these openings is a small fixed light in a rough chamfered surround and a 19th-century two-light sliding sash window to the right.

The south front has a large glazing bar sash window in a moulded ashlar surround with a segment head, and a brick relieving arch above it. To the left is a 20th-century casement window with a segment brick head, and above is a small 20th-century gabled dormer. Inside, the house features various chamfered beams, a single bressumer fireplace, and a collar purlin roof.
