Description
Newton Farm House, with an attached cottage and Western Cottage, is a farmhouse and cottages dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in 1713, the 19th century, and the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features pantile roofs, including a stone-coped gable, a single gable, and two ridge brick stacks.
The front of the building is irregular and two storeys high, comprising six bays. It has an off-centre door from the 20th century, with three two-light glazing bar sliding sash windows to the left and a smaller two-light sliding sash and a larger glazing bar casement to the right. On the first floor, there are two small two-light glazing bar sliding sashes in the centre, two larger similar windows to the left, and a single similar window to the right. All openings have timber lintels. The right gable features a date stone indicating the year 1713.
On the side front, there is a single plank door, with two two-light glazing bar sliding sashes to the left and two similar windows above. The interior retains features such as chamfered girders with ogee stops, a chamfered fireplace bressemer, and a clasped purlin oak roof.
