Description

This is an early 17th-century farmhouse, with alterations dating to the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of roughly-laid limestone rubble, with ashlar quoins and dressings, and a pantiled roof with raised stone copings to the gables. The roof features a single ashlar ridge stack and gable stacks, each with funnels and moulded cornices. Originally a three-room plan, the front elevation is six bays and incorporates a centrally positioned double-panelled door. To the left of the door are two single-light windows and a three-light window; to the right are two two-light windows. The first floor has four two-light windows and two single-light windows. All windows are glazing bar sash windows with timber lintels. The rear elevation includes two three-light windows with ovolo mullions, a four-light window, and a 17th-century doorcase with a depressed arched head and chamfered ashlar surround. Inside, the former kitchen retains a large ashlar pier to the fireplace, featuring a chamfered external angle with a pyramidal stop, and an oak lintel above. The hall fireplace has a depressed arch lintel on moulded and stopped ashlar jambs, while the parlour has a similar, smaller fireplace. The roof structure includes clasped purlins. The house was historically owned by the Carres of Sleaford.
