Description
The Old Post Office is a house built in 1613, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a pantile roof, along with two gable and a single axial ridge stack made of red brick. The building has two storeys and a four-bay front. The entrance is an off-centre two-panelled door, with a two-light fixed glazing bar window in a 17th-century moulded stone surround to the left. To the right, there is a three-light glazing bar casement and a similar two-light window. On the first floor, there are two additional windows, also with 17th-century moulded stone surrounds. To the left of the main structure is a single-storey service block that contains a two-light sliding glazing bar sash window. Inside, the building retains chamfered girders, and in the principal room, there is an inglenook fireplace with a moulded bressumer featuring the initials RS and the date 1613, along with hounds, human masks, and knotwork decoration. There is also a four-centred arched fireplace. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins.
