Description
Mill Farmhouse and attached cottage and outbuildings date from the mid-18th century, with alterations and an extension in the 19th century. The structure is built of tooled sandstone with a pantile roof.
The front facing the yard has a two-storey, two-window main section, flanked by a lower two-storey, single-window range with an outshut to the left, and a single-storey range of outbuildings to the right. A four-panel door is located in the lower two-storey range, alongside a 16-pane sash window to the left and a four-pane sash above. The outshut features a two-light, 12-pane horizontal sliding sash window. The main front has a fixed-light fire window with a three-light casement and a four-pane sash window to the right. Two four-pane sashes are on the first floor. All windows have painted stone sills and heavy plain lintels. Coped gables and shaped kneelers are present, along with end stacks. There’s an end left stack and a right of centre stack to the outshut’s catslide roof. The outbuildings have three stable doors, one board door and a small-pane fixed window at the end right. Other windows are six-pane top-opening lights. The end right has a coped gable and shaped kneeler.
The front facing the road has a two-storey, two-window front with a lower two-storey, two-window wing to the right. Single-storey outshuts have been added, along with a single-storey lean-to outbuilding at the end right, and a single-storey range of outbuildings projects at the end left. A four-panel door is located in the outshut and to the left. A board door is in the cottage to the right and in the lean-to. The house has a four-pane sash window on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The cottage has a two-light, small-pane casement to the right of the door with a large-pane casement above, and a two-light, large-pane horizontal sliding sash window to the first floor left. The outbuildings have 20th-century plank double doors to the former butcher's shop, a plank smithy door with two fixed-light windows further to the left, and a centre left stack. A mounting block is beside the smithy door.
Interiors of the ground-floor rooms in the main house retain roughly-chamfered spine beams and square section joists. In the first room, the bressumer (boxed) and heck remain. To the left of the fireplace is a spice cupboard recess with a carved square surround.
