Description
Church Houses Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse with minor alterations made around 1900. It is constructed of dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a pantile roof with raised coped gables and two gable stacks.
The west front has an off-centre doorway with a part-glazed panel door, flanked by single three-light sliding sash windows. Above these, there are two similar sliding sash windows, all featuring ashlar lintels. The right side of the building facing the street has a blank gable wall with a chamfered corner to the left and a Victorian wall-mounted cast iron letterbox to the right, inscribed with "VR."
On the rear facade, which faces the farmyard, there is an off-centre doorway with an inset plank door. To the left, there is a blocked doorway, and on either side of both doors, there are single two-light casement windows with glazing bars. Above the doorway, there is a single light casement flanked by two single two-light casements, all with glazing bars.
To the left, there is a single-storey outbuilding that has a single plank door and a two-light sliding sash window.
Inside, the farmhouse retains original plank doors and a stone flagged floor in the kitchen, along with an Edwardian cast iron range and Edwardian cast iron fireplaces on the upper floor. The original timber staircase is still in place, although the roof structure was mostly replaced in the early 20th century. The outhouse contains a washing copper, a baking oven, and a large stone basin.
