Description

Redcroft is a former maltings manager’s house, now a house, dating from around 1900. It was designed by A Couchman. The house is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, featuring half-timbering on the gable and a plain tile hipped roof with two ridge stacks and a single wall stack. A low stone plinth, storey and cill bands, and overhanging bracketed eaves are also present.

The north front has a four-window elevation, with a projecting two-window centre topped by a half-timbered gable. To the right is a segmental archway with a stone hood mould and a recessed panelled door. On the left is a three-light mullion window with a Tudor hood mould, and a similar two-light window alongside. The first floor has two two-light mullion windows to the projecting centre, a similar window to the right, and a single plain sash to the left.

The right return features canted bay windows with hipped roofs and casement windows, alongside two narrow single-light windows to each floor.

The rear of the house has a large square bay window with two single sashes, each with a Tudor hood mould.

Redcroft forms an integral part of a nationally important maltings complex.
