Description
The site features a ruined building and an adjoining section of the Close wall to the north, dating from the late 13th century, possibly incorporating part of the late 2nd century Colonia wall, with elements from the late 14th century. The structure is made of dressed stone and ashlar. The roofless building has a roll-moulded, depressed ogee-headed doorway with rosettes and a 19th-century plank door on its southern side. To the left of the doorway is a two-light mullioned window, and further along is an angle buttress. The adjoining Close wall to the north includes an angle buttress and an incomplete crenellated parapet, extending approximately 30 meters in length. The alignment of this wall corresponds with that of the original Colonia wall. This site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No.19.
