Description
The Colonia wall and lower west gate in Lincoln date back to the 1st century and include remnants of the west gate from the 3rd century. The structure features carved stone from a 1st-century building and was excavated and restored in 1978. It is constructed from coursed rubble and dressed stone. The remains include two square towers flanking the gateway, with the northern tower having a plinth made of reused stone, part of which has been replaced by a resin casting. The original stone is displayed in the foyer of the City Hall. The wall extends approximately 30 meters to the north and 20 meters to the south, reaching heights of up to 2 meters. This site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No. 187.
