Description
The Old Rectory is a mid-14th century former rectory that now stands as a ruin. It is constructed of rubble with sandstone dressings. Originally, the building featured an open hall, service rooms, and a first floor at the north end, which extended as a wing to the east; however, only the foundations of this wing remain, along with those of a porch at the eastern door of the cross passage. The south gable of the hall is steeply pitched and has an ogee quatrefoiled light at its apex. At the north end, the cross passage includes moulded external doors and three chamfered service doors in the north wall. Although the north wall has been partially rebuilt, it still contains a central chamfered doorway with a two-centred arch, likely leading to an external kitchen. Flanking this doorway are chamfered lights with two-centred heads. The site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
