Description

74 and 76 Main Street are two houses built in 1634, with some alterations. They are constructed from limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and have a slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a drip course that runs across both houses, although it has been cut back.

No. 76, which is on the left, has a modern porch at the doorway with plain reveals, a modern window to the right with a rebated and chamfered head, and a rebated and chamfered window surround on the first floor. No. 74 has sash windows with plain stone heads and cement jambs, including one to the left of the door and four on the first floor. There is a blocked one-light 17th-century chamfered window at the far left. To the right, there is a wide triangular-headed chamfered opening leading to The Thoroughfare, which has a matching opening in the rear wall.

The front door of No. 74 has a plain stone surround with '1634 RH' in raised letters and a shield on the lintel. There are chimneys located between Nos. 74 and 76, as well as to the left and right of the opening to The Thoroughfare. The right-hand gable features coping and a footstone. The rear wall is pebble-dashed and includes a chamfered window surround with a fixed light and glazing bars above the yard entrance, along with some rebated and chamfered surrounds.
