Description
54 and 56 Long Street are a pair of houses in a terrace, dating from the late 17th century. They are constructed of rubble stone, which is partially limewashed, and sit on a plinth with a Cotswold stone slate roof. No stacks are visible. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and feature two gables facing the street, each with one window. The windows are three-light stone mullion wood casements, each with square hoodmoulds. There are relieving arches over the first and ground floors. The ground floor has renewed timber casements, with a continuous dripmould over the windows and doors, although the dripmould is broken over the door to No. 54. Both houses have 20th-century doors. No. 54 has a timber lintel set in the stonework above its doorway, while No. 56 may have an inserted doorway. No. 56 also includes a doorway leading to No. 58, which features a moulded stone architrave and a panelled door, with the top two panels glazed and the rest fielded. Inside No. 56, some internal beams remain, including a very large timber corbel block on the first floor.
