Description
No. 14 Bailgate is a house that now operates as a house and restaurant. It dates from the early 18th century and was refronted in the mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building features a brick and stucco front, which may have originally been timber framed, along with a slate roof and a brick side wall stack. The first floor has raised and shaped quoins and scroll brackets supporting the coped parapets. The structure is two storeys tall, plus attics, and consists of two bays.
The 20th-century shopfront is clad in granite and has a near-central recessed two-leaf door flanked by single plate glass windows, all with bronze frames. To the right of the shopfront is a recessed half-glazed door from the 19th century. Above the shopfront, there is a plain sash window and a canted bay window that contains three plain sashes, both dating from the 19th century. Above these, there are two segment-headed dormers with 20th-century two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected.
