Description

No. 1 (E.J. Tong) is a shop located on the north side of High Street in Spilsby. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 19th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick with a slate roof and features a brick coped gable. It is two stories tall, plus attics, and has a two-bay front. The 19th-century shopfront is decorated and includes a half-glazed recessed door, a shop window to the right supported by cast iron, with arches and decorative spandrel panels, and a latticed stall riser. There is a fascia and cornice on elaborate brackets.

On the first floor, there are two glazing bar sashes. The roof includes a single two-light dormer window with slate cheeks and a flat lead roof. At the rear, there is a long painted brick two-story range featuring a first-floor band and three glazing bar sashes. Beyond this is an early 19th-century addition made of red brick in Flemish bond, which has three bays, a tripartite bow window, a later leaded light, and two glazing bar sashes. The first floor of this addition also has three similar windows, all with segmental brick heads. The roof features a through eaves dormer and a plain dormer.
