Description

The statue of Sir John Franklin, created in 1861 by C. Bacon of London, is located in the Market Place of Spilsby. It features a tall square base made of Portland stone with an ashlar base and a deep plinth. One side panel of the base is inscribed with the words "Sir John Franklin, Discoverer of the North West Passage. Born at Spilsby April 1786, died in the Arctic regions, June 1847." The bronze figure of Sir John Franklin stands resting on an anchor, with one hand holding a telescope, and includes the name of the sculptor inscribed on the figure.
