Description
The Midland Bank is an early to mid-19th century building located on Cornmarket. It features a front elevation with three storeys, the ground floor is finished in channelled stucco, while the upper storeys are adorned with full-height, two-storey pilasters in a Greek Corinthian style. The windows have glazing bars, and the first-floor windows include plain plaster detailing at the angles. The building is topped with a cornice and pediment. To the left, there is a three-storey section with a channelled stucco ground floor and two upper storeys made of brick, featuring a blocking course and a Welsh slate roof. The eaves cornice is moulded with dentils. This section has two windows, including a shallow two-storey canted oriel with grooved wood pilasters and 19th-century glazing, as well as another window to the right that has a carved stucco lintel with a keystone. A stucco band separates the storeys. The Midland Bank and the premises occupied by Masons, Fuller, Chatterton & Haxby are part of a group.
