Description

No. 9 Wide Bargate is a shop built in the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys high with a three-bay front. The left bay was originally an open passageway but was filled in during the early 20th century. The ground floor features a 20th-century shop front, while the first and second floors have three plain sash windows. The roof is hipped to the left and is topped by a tall added parapet. Inside, the building retains an early 18th-century turned baluster staircase leading to the first floor, as well as remnants of a wall panelled scheme in the front room on the first floor.
