Description

23, 25, and 27 Wormgate is a terrace of three houses with shops, dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. Number 25 was largely rebuilt in 1985. The buildings are constructed of red and brown brick, reclaimed red brick, and colour-washed brick, topped with hipped pantile roofs.

The exterior features three storeys and a six-bay front arranged in a 2:2:2 pattern. Number 23 has a late 19th-century shop front with a central door that includes an overlight, flanked by two-light shop windows. This is supported by narrow pilasters and gabled console brackets for the fascia, which has a cornice. Above the shop front, there are two plain sash windows on each floor, with flat wedge brick arches over the first-floor windows.

Number 25 has a rebuilt front with a timber shop front and two glazing bar sash windows on each floor, featuring rubbed brick arches. Number 27, made of colour-washed brick, has an early 19th-century shop front with a central half-glazed door, flanked by single glazing bar shop windows. This front has a narrow pilastered surround with small carved brackets for the fascia, which curves over the shop windows. The first floor features two margin-light sashes with painted brick wedge lintels, while the second floor has two glazing bar sashes with cement stucco lintels.

The interior has not been inspected.
