LONG WHATTON WHATTON HOUSE GROUNDS SK 42 SE 5/212 Pagoda and Buddha in Chinese garden GV II

Garden ornament in form of a statue of the Buddha in a pagoda. Late C19. STATUE is of Chinese or Japanese origin, and is made of bronze. It shows a seated Buddha with a halo, on a 3-legged stand. It is said to have been taken from the Summer Palace at Peking. PAGODA is of wood, tile-hung on the outside, with internal decoration of patterned wooden strips. Tented pantile roof on wrought iron scroll trusses. Part of the Chinese garden laid out by the first Lord Crawshaw c1890-1900.
