Description
The pagoda and Buddha in the Chinese garden are garden ornaments dating from the late 19th century. The statue of the Buddha, believed to be of Chinese or Japanese origin, is made of bronze and depicts a seated Buddha with a halo on a three-legged stand. It is said to have been taken from the Summer Palace in Peking. The pagoda is constructed of wood and is tile-hung on the outside, featuring internal decoration of patterned wooden strips. It has a tented pantile roof supported by wrought iron scroll trusses. This feature is part of the Chinese garden that was laid out by the first Lord Crawshaw around 1890 to 1900.
