Description
The Pagoda and Goddess in the Chinese garden is a garden ornament dating from the late 19th century. It features a statue of a goddess, which is of Chinese or Japanese origin and made of bronze. The statue depicts a standing goddess with a small figure of a Buddha on her headdress and is supported by a three-legged stand. The pagoda itself is constructed of wood and is tile-hung on the outside, with internal decoration of patterned wooden strips. It has a tented pantile roof supported by scrolled wrought iron trusses. This structure is part of the Chinese garden that was laid out by the first Lord Crawshaw around 1890 to 1900.
