Description

The Pair of Cranes in the Chinese garden is an ornamental garden sculpture dated 1900, as indicated on a plaque. This pair of bronze cranes, which are of Chinese or Japanese origin and date from the late 19th century, stands on a rough stone base. Behind the cranes, there is a stone panel inscribed with the words: "In memory of Adam and Eve, Two old Cranes buried 1900." This sculpture is part of a collection gathered for the garden by the first Lord Crawshaw around 1890 to 1900. The cranes were illustrated in Country Life on February 21st, 1985.
