Description
Brandgate Farmhouse and its attached outbuilding is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century, although it was mostly rebuilt and extended in the mid-18th century, with some alterations to the windows made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and features plain tile roofs, with a central brick chimney that was rebuilt in the 20th century. It stands two storeys high with an attic and consists of two original bays.
Architectural details include dentilled band courses at the first-floor level and at the gable end near the eaves and above the attic window, as well as corbelled dentil eaves. The windows are primarily 20th-century three-light barred wooden casements, most of which are in altered openings, with the lower left window featuring a segmental head. There is a blocked single light window in the centre of the first floor. The right gable end also includes 20th-century barred wooden casements, with a bowed design on the ground floor.
To the left of the farmhouse is a narrow 19th-century extension that has a two-light casement above a half-glazed door. There are two buttresses from the 19th to 20th centuries. Attached to the left end of the farmhouse is an outbuilding that was formerly a stable, which features a two-light wooden casement above a stable door on the left and a large pitching eye on the right. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing from the 19th century. Inside, the left gable end retains timber framing, and there is a large central fireplace with a roughly cambered lintel.
