Description

The George Hotel, located on the North Side of High Street, dates to the late 18th century. The building has a rendered white facade and a slate roof, rising to three storeys with five windows. The upper windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor features reproduction leaded casements. A central carriageway arch leads to the rear, now covered by a modern canopy. A painted notice detailing post horses is visible on the beam across this entrance, thought to date from the coaching era. The hotel forms a group with numbers 4, 10, and 12, as well as numbers 5, 9-21 (odd), 11A, the Coach House at number 19, and number 1 Wilton Place.
