Description
No. 10 High Street is a late 18th century front added to an earlier house, which features a high gabled roof visible from the side elevation. The rear end wall of this part has been rebuilt. The facade is made of red brick and is notable for its three storeys, which are divided by plain friezes and moulded stone cornices. It has a high plinth and rusticated quoins. There are three windows with sashes set in moulded stone architraves, while the ground floor has been modernized. Inside, the building contains a fine late 17th century staircase, several contemporary fireplaces, and some panelling. No. 10, along with No. 4, Nos. 6 and 8 (The George Hotel), and No. 12, forms a group with No. 5, Nos. 9 to 21 (odd), Nos. 11A, the Coach House at No. 19, and No. 1 Wilton Place.
