Description
The Grimston War Memorial Cross is located in a memorial enclosure on the south side of Main Street, about 85 meters west of the Church of St John the Baptist, which is listed at Grade II*. There are several other Grade II-listed buildings nearby. The memorial features a cross made of Portland stone, standing approximately 2 meters tall. It has a wheel-head design with a short cross shaft that rests on a pedestal. The pedestal is octagonal in shape and supports a small tapering block that is square on the bottom, from which the cross rises. The pedestal is set on a two-stepped base.
A principal dedicatory inscription is displayed on a plate attached to the front face of the central block, which reads: "GRIMSTON WAR MEMORIAL/ (8 NAMES)/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918."
