Description
Numbers 1-16 The Square, Chapel and Boundary Wall are alms houses located on Frolesworth Road. The original foundation dates back to 1725, when four houses were built. An additional ten houses were added in 1761, followed by ten more in 1796 and 1824. The existing buildings are primarily from the late 18th century to early 19th century, and the 24 cottages were modified into 16 dwellings around 1965. The structure is made of brick with Swithland slate roofs and forms three sides of a courtyard that faces inward. The chapel is situated at the center of the northern range and features an early 19th-century frontispiece, which includes a stone round-headed archway with carved spandrels, flanked by a cupola that contains a clock.
