Description
Claybrooke Mill is a watermill located in Claybrooke Magna, reputed to date from 1763 and extended in 1840. It is constructed of red brick and features a brick cornice beneath a slate roof. The building stands three storeys tall and has an irregular three-window front. There are no windows on the second or ground floors to the left, with all windows being wide segment-headed casements. On the left and right of the centre, there are two flat-headed casements. The first floor has boarded doors to the left of centre, and there are doors in the centre and to the right on the ground floor. Five irregularly spaced timbers rise to the eaves, bolted to the structure as supports.
Inside, most of the mill machinery remains intact, including a 12-foot diameter overshot waterwheel, sluice, pit wheel, wallower, spur wheel, and one pair of Derby Greystones, with provisions for an additional pair. The mill is still in commercial operation.
