Description
Claybrooke Mill House is a house dated 1723, located in Claybrooke Magna. The building is constructed of red brick and has a rendered east front. It features a brick cornice and a slate hipped roof with two ridge stacks. The house has two storeys and a regular three-window front, with casements that have segment heads, narrower in the center. The central entrance consists of a panelled door with an overlight, set within a pilastered surround topped by a flat entablature hood on brackets. There is a low wing added in the later 19th century to the west. The site of the mill has been in use since at least 1675, and it is likely that it has been operational since the time of the Domesday Book, as a mill in the Manor of Claybrooke was recorded in 1086 and 1279. The complex also previously included a windmill.
