Description
Claybrooke House is a house dating from around 1720, with some alterations made in the early 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, with roughcast on the west side, and has a slate roof that is hipped to the northeast. The building is in an L-plan shape, featuring a rear wing on the east side with the angle filled in. It has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front that includes 2/2 sash windows, all having gauged brick lintels and keystones. There is a plinth and a platband. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door flanked by lights, set within a wide gabled porch that dates from the late 19th century. To the east, there are additional sashes, a square bay, and a French window, along with two 2-light hipped dormers above.
Inside, the house features an original openwell staircase with turned balusters that rises from the ground floor to the attic. There are two open fireplaces, one of which has an altered arch. The dining room includes a chamfered spine beam, and the original roof has chamfered purlins.
