Description
Church Hill Farmhouse is a late 18th-century brick farmhouse, with a graffito indicating construction in 1778. The main block is three storeys high and has three bays, with a central doorway that originally had a taller opening featuring a cambered head and keystone. The ground and first-floor windows are renewed three-light casements with transoms, set within original openings with cambered brick heads and keystones. Attic windows are three-light casements with timber lintels. A brick sill band runs along the front. Gable end stacks are present. A lower, two-storeyed service range is attached to the right, with a two-unit plan and three-light casement windows within cambered brick heads. The rear gable angle of this range is corbelled out at first-floor level. A two-storeyed rear wing is also attached. The interior features a large inglenook and a spine beam with a cyma moulded stop and run-out stops. The staircase is likely from the 18th century, with a geometric balustrade design influenced by Chinese motifs. The roof was originally thatched and at a steeper pitch, and double purlins, resulting from alterations, are visible inside. Attached to the south is a range of outbuildings which were formerly a barn and stables, now used as business premises. These buildings are of brick construction with a Welsh slate roof. They include one renewed window, four original doorways with cambered brick heads, and one retained bullseye window.
