Description
The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly used as a rectory. The structure is likely mostly from the 18th century, though it may have an earlier core, and it was refaced in the mid-19th century. It features stucco over brick with a plain tiled roof. The building is two stories high with attics, and its main range has two cross wings. The current doorway is located in a smaller gabled bay to the left, while there is an earlier door to the left of the main range. The left gabled wing has one bay, and the right wing has two bays. All windows are 19th-century openings with stuccoed heads that have keystones, although the glazing has been renewed. The stucco walls hide a plinth and sill band in the main range and the right wing. The building has ornate barge boards on the overhanging eaves. There is an axial stack between the main range and the right wing, along with additional stacks in the side walls and on the inner face of the left wing. The two stacks associated with the right wing are made of early very narrow brickwork, with one featuring a dentilled plinth detail. The center of the rear elevation has a mid-19th-century canted wing, which includes sash windows on the ground floor and a Palladian window in the drawing room above. The building is finished with a modillion eaves cornice.
